Big Leaf Maple Burl entitled "Ringed Planet". A large burl bowl turned on the lathe. I studied the heavy burl for several weeks before I decided how to orient and cut it. I wantd a natural edge bowl with a natural edge ring around it preserving as much of the character of the burl as possible. The Big Leaf Maple burl came from the Pacific Northwest with rocks and nails in it. I left one nail in the bowl for character. the bowl is approximately 7 inches high by 18 inches in diameter.
