Dreams in Wood

Jon Reiver is a self taught woodturner living on a farm outside Crossville, TN. He has been selling his wood turnings, cravings and home made furniture for close to two decades. He started working with wood after retiring from the US Navy.

Jon was raised in upstate New York, living in the woods several miles outside of a small town of less than 100 people. He attended the State University of New York at Stony Brook where he majored in Physics. Emerging from the dark, windowless laboratory one spring he decided that he didn't want to be stuck in a Lab for the rest of his life, so he joined the Navy's Nuclear Power Program and spent the next 24 years stuck in a dark, windowless submarine. He did get to see the world, and rose to be second-in-command of a nuclear submarine and retired with the rank of Commander.

Deciding this time that he definitely did not want to be stuck in a dark, windowless environment for the rest of his life, he decided to be a gentleman farmer and bought a farm in the middle of Tennessee where he resides with his wife, dog, cat, goats, horses and burros. He definitely enjoys the pastoral view of his rolling farm land, ponds and animals from his many windows.

Jon built his own house and workshop. He keeps very busy with managing his farm and enjoying the animals, riding the horses with his wife; and his hobbies of woodturning, carving and building furniture. He has participated in several fine arts shows including being the featured artist and has had items displayed in art galleries and museums.

Jon is a member of the American Association of Woodturners and the Cumberland Woodturners.
